Changelog
1.0.112026-10-28
- Deft is now called OrchidNote, and the website has moved to orchidnote.com; your settings, highlights, notes and backups are kept, and PDFs still open in it by default
1.0.102026-10-28
- In scanned or photographed pages, you copy exactly the recognized characters you drag over, not their neighbours
1.0.92026-10-27
- Bordered tables in scanned documents are cut along their own lines, so rows, columns and merged cells match the original; a slightly tilted scan or a red seal doesn't throw it off
- For PDFs with the scanner's own text layer, OrchidNote now reads table text itself instead of copying the scanner's mistakes
- Long numbers in tables no longer lose digits
1.0.82026-10-27
- Undo (Ctrl+Z) takes back your latest change, whichever page it's on; if that page is off screen, OrchidNote scrolls to it first, and an erase or a move is undone with one press
- When the toolbar fades while you read, the tool you're using stays sharp
- Icons in the selection toolbar and the screenshot editor now match the main toolbar
- Consistent wording: what you draw is called "marks", and the Text note tool is now "Text box"
1.0.72026-10-27
- When a PDF is open in OrchidNote and you drag other PDFs or images onto its icon in File Explorer, OrchidNote asks whether to append them: choose Yes and the new pages go at the end in page management, written to the file when you click Apply, and the dragged files stay as they are
- Fixed: previously the files were merged on disk right away, and clicking Apply in page management afterwards dropped the appended pages; if the file changes outside OrchidNote, Apply now stops and asks you to reopen it
1.0.62026-10-26
- Three-line tables common in papers (a few horizontal rules, no vertical lines) are now recognized: copy a whole table into Excel or Word, translate cell by cell, with spanning headers and row groups kept
- Tables on scanned pages and those found by the table model keep merged cells, so columns after a merged cell no longer shift
- The signature status is now a small shield whose colour shows the result (green valid, yellow needs a look, red invalid); hover for details, hide it for one file, or turn it off in Settings > Reading
- When a translation request fails (no network, an API error), the page is retried when you scroll to it, with a message explaining why and a Retry button
- Other improvements and fixes
1.0.52026-10-26
- Pages where the text wraps around a quote box no longer get translated one or two lines at a time: the quote is translated on its own, the text beside it as whole paragraphs, and the translation follows the original shape without covering the box
- Right-click the translate button to retranslate this page or the whole file when you're not happy with the result
- Other improvements and fixes
1.0.42026-10-26
- Offline translation now works one sentence at a time and no longer drops the last sentences of a paragraph
- Rotated text on a page (book spines, the arXiv stamp down the margin of papers) no longer chops up the text beside it: cover titles translate as a whole, and paper abstracts translate, copy and go to Ask AI as one paragraph
- The signature check result shrinks to a small icon after a few seconds and expands on hover; invalid signatures stay visible
- Other improvements and fixes
1.0.32026-10-26
- Electronic seals in signed PDFs (e-contracts, e-invoices and the like) now show up
- The installer can make OrchidNote your default PDF app; if it isn't, OrchidNote reminds you once a month (you can turn this off in Settings)
- Translated pages follow the original layout and styling
- The screenshot rack opens only from the middle of the top screen edge, so it no longer pops up by accident; Ask AI from the rack starts its own conversation, separate from the document you're reading
- On new installs the toolbar sits vertically on the left; Settings can be pinned to the toolbar; the Copy table button has a new look
- The original icon is back; other improvements and fixes
1.0.22026-10-24
- New “Reading” home: your recent books as a wall of covers, with where you left off and how long you read this week
- Select to annotate: a small toolbar over selected text to highlight, underline, copy, translate, write a thought or ask AI; exported highlights show up in other PDF readers
- Ask AI: answers cite pages you can click to jump to; ready-made questions above the input; token usage per answer; fewer steps to set up a model
- The screenshot line is now the screenshot rack, with its own region capture and a global hotkey; mark up screenshots, pin them to the screen, and pick a rope style
- A new settings window (Ctrl+,), a command palette (Ctrl+K), a shortcut sheet (?) and a searchable help manual (F1)
- A hands-on guide on first launch; interface size from 75% to 150% without changing page size
- One pen with fountain and gel strokes; arrange the toolbar your way, with tips on every button
- A new icon; a new title bar on Windows 11; a progress card with Cancel for long tasks
- Other improvements and fixes
1.0.12026-10-17
- New screenshot line: screenshots hang along the top edge of the screen and slide down when you point there. Copy them, ask AI, recognize text, insert into the current PDF or save as a PDF; it can stay in the tray after OrchidNote is closed
- New color styles: Linear, Notion, Vercel and Supabase, in the user menu
- Mind maps: per-chapter detail view and AI key-point marking
- Other improvements and fixes
1.0.02026-09-26
- The product is officially named Deft, with the domain deftpdf.xyz; data from the old version (XPDF) is migrated automatically on first launch
- New “Remove ads / watermarks”: finds promotional content and strips only the selected drawing commands, checking every page to protect the real content
- New text tool: text boxes on the page, exported as editable text annotations with embedded CJK font subsets
- New “This book” panel: thoughts, reading logs and Q&A gathered into a timeline by page, plus chapter mind maps
- New Ask AI reading companion: Background / Another angle / Ask me first, with no spoilers beyond where you've read
- File Explorer quick merge / image-to-PDF / split are now part of the main app, undoable with a single Ctrl+Z; the installer registers the right-click menu automatically
- Table copy upgraded to bordered-table recognition, keeping borders and merged cells
- PDF engine unified on PDFium; PDF writing now uses PDFsharp; layout model switched to PP-DocLayoutV3
- Performance: memory use down from 1.8–2.4 GB to 0.6–1.0 GB; large documents open faster; table extraction and OCR run in parallel
- Interface: warm light / dark themes, with primary buttons and checkboxes following the theme
